What is the leading cause of house fires?

The leading cause of fires in the US is still smoking. In fact, according to the NFPA, smoking is also the leading cause of fire deaths in the US. If you are a smoker, please be careful and avoid smoking indoors or leaving cigarette butts to burn out on their own.
